ABSTRACT

Attending the national meeting of the American Political Science Association in 2001, I was a bit dumfounded to see a paper titled "Shopping As Political Participation" listed in the official program. Actually, the paper was being delivered not to an official association panel, but to an associated group, meeting in conjunction with the national association of political scientists. Shopping as politics? What was that? No red-blooded guy would do research on such a topic! A female colleague of mine then teaching at the University of Stockholm was presenting the paper (Micheletti 2001).
