ABSTRACT

South Korea (hereafter Korea) has emerged from the Korean War as a major player in the global economic market as well as in the development of the Asian region. Along with Korea’s growth over the last few decades, the relationship between Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has also grown at a rapid pace. From bilateral trade and investment to assistance during natural disasters, the history behind this successful relationship is significant in order to analyze the future path of the ASEAN cooperation as well as the disparities and challenges faced by both as a consequence of global economic fluctuations and growth in the Asian and Southeast Asian regions.
