ABSTRACT

The centre of gravity (COG) of an object is the point at which the entire weight of an object is assumed to be concentrated. The terms COG and centre of mass (COM) are often used synonymously within the field of human movement. This section aims to give the student an outline of the COG and how to calculate it using video analysis and a COG board. After reading this section, the student will also recognise how posture and position influence a person’s COG and how this may affect their movement and stability.
