ABSTRACT

Improving the sustainability of a church building can be done by a framework of maturity levels. This chapter presents such a framework and its application to three churches in The Netherlands. The maturity levels provide insight into the current level of sustainability policies and measures, but also into where opportunities for improvements lie. The framework contains a questionnaire that allows a scoring for an individual congregation and their church building. It is a starting point for discussions on what it means to be a green church.
