ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides an overview of national and international history with nuanced explanations so that readers can see how gender equality initiatives began and coincide with other changes. It shows how different events redirected gender equality activities and often lengthened the time tables for equality agendas. The book also provides historical bases, often but not always starting with the 20th century, with listings of and explanations for pivotal points in these socio-political and economic contexts. It describes inheritance in Islamic Law so that the nature of gendered familial obligations and practices is not misperceived or confused with what happens in other countries. The book focuses on the "remarkable" improvements in gender equality in legal and educational realms but points out that economic improvements for women are "less noticeable" with the area of least improvement being political.
