ABSTRACT

Historically, the face of sexual addiction has been decidedly male, and females’ experience with sex- or love-addicted behaviour has received comparatively little specific attention. Many therapists, even those trained in treating sex addiction, are not fully equipped to treat it in women, who present unique challenges. This chapter outlines the presentations of female sex and love addiction (FSLA), the neuro-psycho-biological roots of the disorder and effective treatment strategies that move an FSLA beyond sobriety to the achievement of emotional self-regulation and healthy intimate relationships.
