ABSTRACT

Conducting effective disclosures to partners is one of the most challenging aspects of sex addiction treatment. An ineffective disclosure can derail treatment and cause a tremendous setback in the progress of treatment. This chapter highlights strategies and techniques for facilitating an effective disclosure, as well as pointing out potential pitfalls. The goal of a facilitated disclosure is to empower the partner with the truth about the addict’s sexual behaviours in the least traumatic way possible. Contraindications are also discussed.
