ABSTRACT

The chapter explores notions of sexual addiction and whether the term can be meaningfully applied to sex offenders and, if so, what sort of sex offenders. Various cycles and pathways of sexual offending are compared to common models used in the sexual addiction field. An attempt is made to identify areas of both problematic and fruitful common practice. A composite, fictional case study of an internet offender, with sexually compulsive, addicted behaviour, is presented. It is argued that a cross-fertilisation of ideas from the two treatment worlds can contribute to therapeutic practice with both patientgroups.
