ABSTRACT

When physicians, psychologists, clergy and other persons in authority are found to be engaging in sexual misconduct with patients, clients or parishioners, it is crucial to understand the underlying reasons for their behaviour to be able to formulate an effective treatment plan, and to determine if they might be able to return to their previous work. In over half of cases, the cause of the sexual misconduct is a sexual disorder with addictive features. This chapter describes the differential diagnosis of these behaviours and the appropriate treatment approach for each.
