ABSTRACT

Research has identified that clergy sexual misconduct is a significant issue within monotheistic religions, particularly among Protestant clergy. This chapter focuses on the scope of the problem within the Protestant Church and the various types of sexual misconduct, including sexual addiction and the internet. The chapter also includes an ecosystemic analysis of aetiology, including intrapersonal and interpersonal factors and contextual variables. The authors discuss the ramifications of clergy sexual misconduct for the involved parties, including victims, spouses, families and congregations. They also consider future directions, including implications for treatment, with a focus on healing, integration and restoration.
