ABSTRACT

In a world of increasing individualism, addictions become a real Pandora ’ s box and it is difficult to measure all the short- and medium-term consequences of them. Some addictions may go more or less unnoticed, whereas others may lead to a gap between what the individual was like before their addiction and what they become over time. With hypersexualisation occurring in almost all areas of social life, the ‘ unreal ’ eventually surpasses reality. This chapter explores how pornography and hypersexualisation leverage the stereotypical standards of beauty, and eroticise the body by designating it as an object of pleasure, distorting reality.
