ABSTRACT
The archetype of death and rebirth, the initiatory rites of passage of ancient tribes, the cultures of contemporary indigenous peoples and the modern individual’s search for meaning are all mixed up in the Jungian tradition. In fact, these themes are mixed up everywhere in contemporary society as is the wholesale promise of transformation through joining religious groups, political movements, or through the purchase of every imaginable consumer good from soft drinks to hard porn.
