ABSTRACT
Does environmental change lead to forced human migrations or even to conflicts and war? While a lot has been written about potential climate refugees, the chapter shows that scientists find no straightforward relation between environmental transformation and human migration. Indeed, much more complex understandings of migration have emerged in recent years, including those considering that migration is an adaptation to environmental change. The chapter, finally, discusses how post-colonial fears are still shaping discussions of North-South migration.
