ABSTRACT
The field of environmental health recognizes that human interactions with the natural and built environment generate vulnerabilities to infectious disease. Additionally, people are exposed to a number of factors that contribute to noncommunicable disease. This chapter defines environmental health and then discusses the relationships between infectious disease and environmental change. Given that health outcomes differ within and between societies, the chapter concludes with an examination of the ways that environmental health is connected to social and environmental justice.
