ABSTRACT
In this chapter I refl ect on where the world was in 1968, where it is heading in the context of the Food, Energy, Water and Environment Nexus, and how researchers should respond. Much has changed since 1968 when the Apollo 8 mission was the fi rst to journey around the moon. Not least, the world’s population was then 3.6 billion. It is now more than twice as large, and is projected to be 9.6 billion by 2050.
