ABSTRACT

Keynes offered to produce Auden's anti-fascist play, On The Frontier, co-authored with Christopher Isherwood, even though he agreed with his old friend, T. S. Eliot, when he remarked "I'm afraid that Hitler is not the simpleton the authors make him out to be". Neo-Keynesians and Post-Keynesians are both recognized subgroups of economists. Keynes's celebration of linguistic precision in "My Early Beliefs" might seem at odds with the contemporaneous reviews of The General Theory by some of his peers, like Arthur Pigou, who accused Keynes of carelessly disregarding economics rigorous disciplinary vocabulary. Keynes argues that the simultaneous emergence of mass media and organized finance turns popular culture into a countervailing power which harnesses the animal spirits. Keynes was both a direct product of the neoclassical revolution, trained at the institution most central to it, and its antithesis, dedicating much of his career to debunking neoclassical principles and demythologizing their architects.
