ABSTRACT

Unfortunately, energy conservation in buildings can be difficult for a host of reasons (Sovacool 2009). Some of these have to do with the modern nature of energy delivery and how energy is accounted for. Most energy is billed in unfamiliar units such as kilowatt hours and mBTUs. Consumers are not familiar with these units because they don’t interact with them on a routine basis if at all. They understand gallons of gasoline because they buy milk, water and other goods in gallons but they do not understand kilowatt hours or mBTUs.
