ABSTRACT

This chapter contains two main parts. Part 1 provides a conceptualization of intercultural communication competence (ICC). I first discuss the moral/axiological position of ICC, and then provide a six-category structure based on Spitzberg and Changnon’s (2009) work and review 41 models related to the ICC research. A comprehensive definition of ICC is given. In Part 2, implications of these models are provided for individuals as moral humans and interpersonal communicators, public relations practitioners, and organizational leaders. Case studies included in this book and other research data and examples are incorporated into the discussion. Recommendations are made at the end of each section, and a conclusion is drawn.
