ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book contributes something distinctive and provides unique perspectives on recurrent themes in particular contexts, collectively making for a well-rounded discourse on women's leadership in emerging markets. Emerging market economies are often characterized by informal relations and ways of doing business based on patronage and affiliation, more so than in developed countries. The book discusses attention of women's positions in corporate enterprises and attention has been balanced by focusing on educational institutions, entrepreneurial organizations and professional services firms. It finds that women leaders from emerging markets confirmed the findings from the West but also expanded the barrier categories. The book identifies the lack of female role models as one of the key barriers to entrepreneurship for women. It focuses on corporate enterprises, and women on boards.
