The chapter explores the planning individual literacy lessons and discrete aspects of English. It focuses on planning effectively for all aspects of English, including such aspects as vocabulary. Practitioners working in the early years need to use the EYFS framework and accompanying guidance to provide core provision and enhanced provision to match each child's individual learning journey. The EYFS guidance emphasises the primary role that communication and language experience plays as the starting point for children's successful language and literacy development. The EYFS emphasises the importance of planning within an ongoing cycle of observation and assessment.
