ABSTRACT

Dr. Christiana Thorpe has been a strong champion of peace and education since prior to Sierra Leone’s 11-year civil war. This chapter focuses on Dr. Thorpe’s leadership through the lens of the integral perspective of peace leadership, a comprehensive understanding of peace leadership adapted from Wilber’s integral theory. The most notable of Dr. Thorpe’s work is in building communities of women through Sierra Leone chapter of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE-SL). Based in rural communities throughout the country, FAWE-SL enabled women to come together to promote education and skills development. Dr. Thorpe has a wide array of experiences and expertise that may identify her as a peace leader prior to focusing on the integral perspective of peace leadership (IPPL). It is clear, however, that her unique experiences fill a more comprehensive and complex understanding of peace leadership when utilizing the IPPL.
