ABSTRACT

Many authors have written about how to apply solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) with clients with psychosis (e.g. Hawkes, 2003; Macdonald, 2011; O’Hanlon & Rowan, 2003). This chapter takes a different focus and describes how SFBT has transformed the work of a group of case managers (CMs) who work with clients with psychosis in Singapore. An in-depth interview with one of the senior CMs highlights the power of SFBT to change practice. That her journey was no isolated example is supported by comments from the other CMs and the team leader. A case study illustrates the application of SFBT in this setting. Cultural factors related to using SFBT in Singapore are also discussed.
