ABSTRACT

The coaching fi eld is still developing and forming an identity. During the 1990s, coaching gained momentum and blossomed from 1995 to the present. In the early years, the International Coach Federation defi ned the fi eld of coaching, and by 1995 they had a professional code of ethics and training standards that included core coaching competencies and professional accreditation (Brock, 2008; ICF, 2015). Other professional coach associations were formed and professional standards were developed. Then, from the mid-1990s, everything changed with the emergence of the external professional coach and the popularisation of coaching.
