ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents what people know about how couples cope with stress in different parts of the world using the conceptual framework of Bodenmann's systemic-transactional model (STM); and they wanted to understand the role of the cultural context in the stress and coping process. Women were also found to use more positive dyadic coping strategies, particularly emotion-focused ones, whereas men in many cultures used more negative dyadic coping strategies. Even though most research has examined the influence of demographic variables on dyadic coping and the effects of dyadic coping on relationship satisfaction and there have been many validation studies of the Dyadic Coping Inventory. For example, the association between parents' and children's dyadic coping has only been assessed in Italian couples or psychological aggression has only been studied as an outcome variable in Latino couples.
