ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the changing nature of the relationship of clients and users with buildings, society and the construction industry. It considers how clients working together could have agency through client associations. The book relates to a large corporate client set within a fully developed neoliberal state where the private sector has taken over many public functions; again not a universal position. The contributions on governance then start with a global difficulty, namely that of funding models for clients. Financial models are now becoming increasingly universal and, although many clients are adopting neoliberalism paradigms for action, there are still governments who take a profound role in financing construction activities. The book reflects on the foresight and considers what research challenges present themselves for clients and users in the future.
