ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an analysis of coercion within the realm of intimate relationships—particularly pertaining to the threats issued in “relationship ultimatums.” It argues that elements of control involved in some coercive threats cause moral problems unique to intimate relationships. These moral problems vary depending on whether an ultimatum involves a warning or a true threat, whether the coercer is certain that his or her partner will comply, and whether the ultimatum is sincere.
