ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I examine the nature of loneliness, present my positionality in relation to loneliness, examine how telling digital stories may well serve to help alleviate loneliness and explore the process of sensemaking and shared grief in the social media age. In providing a tentative framework for this process, I wish to stimulate discussion about the ways that virtual communities, especially those formed in times of crisis, might provide an outlet for those individuals seeking to work through their loneliness.
