Revitalization is an advocacy for a return to the era before the 1970s when Urhobo was a respected and respectable language whose owners took pride in using it extensively for their communication needs and people were eager to teach and learn it in schools. Nigerian Pidgin (NP) is the lingua franca in most parts of the Niger Delta region which includes Urhoboland. It is English-related. NP is the lingua franca in most parts of the Niger Delta region which includes Urhoboland. NP is a bridge between English and the indigenous languages and used by the educated and uneducated, the rich and the poor, and for most informal discussions within and outside the home. NP does not exist officially in government circles; it is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria and has acquired mother tongue status for many young people who live in the Niger Delta region and especially in the towns and cities in Urhoboland.
