ABSTRACT

Mobile environments are typically manufactured in multiples as a consumer product rather than custom-built for a pre-determined user in a specific location. The design of mobile interiors influences the way one perceives the exterior environments beyond and impacts on how one might experience that larger environment with fellow travelers. Mobility is an essential privilege and the spaces designed to move the world's diverse populations reinforce important cultural and social interactions with our environment and with each other. Mobility became synonymous with freedom and a tangible opportunity to pursue one's own happiness through travel and mobile leisure. As much as early travel within the US displayed a preference for the individual's freedom to move, there has long been a fascination with shared experiences of new environments. The Bianca Cruise Ferry, designed by Atelier Manferdini in 2012, is a pleasure cruise meant for the leisure class to travel and experience new environments mediated by the specifically designed interior space of the ferry.
