ABSTRACT

Since 2011, a UK-registered website, https://www.shoah.org.uk, has existed, which, contrary to the expectations possibly triggered by its title, has as its topic not the historical genocide of six million Jewish people in Nazicontrolled Europe but instead an alleged ‘Zio-Nazi’ oppression of Palestine. The implicit equation of ‘Zionism’ and Nazi Germany in the neologism ‘Zio-Nazi’ indicates that the website takes an uncompromisingly hostile view towards the existence of the state of Israel, and the Shoah and Nazi allusions are part of this de-legitimisation strategy. Unsurprisingly, the website advocates and propagates the struggle of ‘ordinary Palestinians’ against the ‘illegal Zionist regime’.
