ABSTRACT

The high-speed railway (HSR) has become the priority of the infrastructure policy in Spain. More than 3,100 kilometres of HSR were in operation in September 2015. This network makes Spain the country with the second largest network in the world, way behind China (16,000 kilometres) but ahead of other supporters of HSR like Japan (2,664 kilometres), France (2,036 kilometres), or Germany (1,334 kilometres). 1 The lines under construction will extend the network in the coming years to beyond 4,000 kilometres.
