ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discusses navigating the application process, his experiences navigating the school he received his undergraduate degree from as a doctoral student, and the impact these experiences have had on his career as a higher education professional. After graduating with master's degree, he accepted a live-in position in residence life at a small, private liberal arts college in the suburbs of Baltimore. Additionally, in the state of Maryland, there are only two brick-and-mortar doctoral programs in higher education administration. The University of Maryland, College Park offers a PhD as well as Morgan State. One significant factor in his decision-making was the cost of attendance. The total cost of attendance at Morgan State was significantly lower than that of the University of Maryland-College Park. Additionally, Morgan State offered several options for financing a graduate education, including several types of institutional scholarships, fellowships, and grant opportunities.
