ABSTRACT

In the Fall of 2014, the authors received support from university to teach alongside and research the methodologies ingrained in the processes that have been developed for Construction Week. The University of East London (UEL) students began their work by reviewing the postcards and visiting the site and neighborhood where they interviewed local shop-keepers, restaurant owners, and people using the plaza. One of the design methods introduced to the students early on by the instructors was to envision the final event through a series of storyboards. The students then presented their proposals not so much as designs for built artifacts but as descriptions of actions and activities. Scheduling a movie as part of the "event" created a new requirement for the project, which was not outlined in the brief. Construction Week at the (UEL) is a success of pedagogy and community engagement.
