ABSTRACT
The Wakathuni community is, in effect, a manifestation of the broader homeland movement and came about after two family groups from the Innawonga language group arrived back on their ancestral lands in 1986 to start a permanent settlement. In late 2010 Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) approached the University of Melbourne seeking support to develop infrastructure and learning programs to improve the education outcomes for the children at the Wakathuni community. The Wakathuni Early Learning Center is recognized by GAC as the most sustained and successful program in their portfolio and the relationships with Wakathuni community members, GAC employees, teachers from the Tom Price Primary School and researchers from the Education and Architecture departments at the University of Melbourne continues. The chapter further acknowledges the important role of the contributors but concentrates itself on the role played by the Bower Studio team.
