ABSTRACT

This vignette is based upon data collected within the pilot phase of a research project entitled Playful Engagement and offers insights into the play approach adopted across it. In particular, it highlights Tom’s Yum Cha moment as a defining one for his developing relationship with Tiny and Dumpling. More importantly in the context of this paper, it provides a useful example of how moments of connection and engagement can be generated for people living with dementia through the reflexive and spontaneous application of play vocabularies.
