ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the Qualitative Comparative Analysis methodology and the dataset. It examines the vocabulary of concepts articulated in the theoretical studies enriching them with the vernaculars emerging from the case studies, with a particular regard for the conflict dynamics, ideas of justice, perceptions of security. The chapter focuses on how the different mechanisms of participation, dialogue and trust building unfolded in each case. It discusses the evaluation criteria and main outcomes for the restorative justice approaches to conflicts in intercultural settings experimented with during the research. The chapter proposes a novel approach based on the restoration of communication, restoration of trust, and restoration of cooperative action for justice. Based on the expanded understanding of restorative practices in intercultural settings, it assesses the outcomes that are closer to the standard approach to restorative justice, namely the reparation of harm.
