ABSTRACT

One of the consequences of author work on asthma assessment was that author was invited to collaborate on a large clinical trial to investigate the efficacy of homeopathy for asthma. Over the next few years author investigated the theory that long-term therapeutic benefit was the result of concordance between participants' goals and the motivational features of the therapeutic ritual. Although all my ph. D. Students received governmental funding; grants submitted to research councils were unsuccessful. The mechanism primarily relevant to the former is response expectancy, whereas the mechanism primarily relevant to the latter is motivational concordance. Rather than examine particular lifestyle events in isolation, people should take into account how the body integrates and responds to the numerous inputs it receives during the lifespan. It is consistent with research showing that positive psychological and biological interventions can have beneficial effects on health.
