ABSTRACT

The Workshop aims to give participants an experience of leadership and teamwork that encouraged a strong personal commitment to making a positive difference in their organizations. It was built using an action-learning model. The workshop is most successful where the organization's leadership has developed a deep understanding of complex adaptive systems and provided systems and behaviour to support the idea that the behaviour of individuals gets magnified through the system. It creates an environment where actions and learning are developed from the experiences of the week. The pursuit of organizational goals needs to be achieved in a way that is consistent with the expressed shared values of the organization. The workshop to be successful the organization needs to support the business outcomes though its leadership and its systems. The Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal in north Queensland is a fine example of leadership understanding the business through the lens of complex adaptive systems theory and changing behaviour accordingly.
