ABSTRACT

The new league was to be called the Western Baseball League and would have teams in Surry, British Columbia; Tri-Cities and Grays Harbor, Washington; Bend, Oregon; and California representatives from Long Beach, Palm Springs, Salinas, and Sonoma County. On a rainy April morning, the author headed up to Rohnert Park Stadium, former home of the Redwood Pioneers of the California League. Poor attendance forced the demise of that team. The author entered the small building that housed the ticket office and administrative personnel. Kevin Radich is one of the morning personalities on KNBR, an all-sports station in San Francisco. He came to the Crushers with the dream of becoming an analyst on major-league broadcasts. The team gives Rohnert Park and the North Bay a feeling of community pride as residents follow their team religiously on the road and at home.
