In the beginning there was no earth, no sky, no underworld, nothing. There was only water — an ocean of water. A lotus flower arose from the ocean; Lord Bisnau was born from that lotus. A flood swept Lord Bisnau away as he was being born. Basut nang, the snake was there … Then from Lord Bisnau’s navel, a lotus flower arose. Baram, his brother was born from that lotus flower. Mahesar was born from Lord Bisnau’s pubic area.
