ABSTRACT

An important dichotomy of the rapid economic growth in Gujarat is exclusion of tribal communities from mainstream development in all the major spheres, such as economic development, human development and poverty reduction. A critical component of including the tribal population in the mainstream economy is massive employment generation in the right kind of sectors to promote broad-based and sustainable development of the region. Generation of productive and decent employment on a scale will also provide income security to workers as well as give them a sense of participation and partnership in development, and dignity and self-esteem.
