ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the sandplay work of four boys, done during the four months leading up to the January 17 deadline. Their work is representative of the themes the authors saw played out by many other children they were working with at the time. To be able to offer sandplay to traumatized victims, the moment the missiles struck, Rivka Perry rushed to the emergency shelter with a few sandplay supplies, including cardboard sandboxes, boxes of sand, and a few boxes of objects and materials. The chapter explores the sandplay images of a set of twins, who shared an experience of complex, multiple, and terrible misfortunes. The non-verbal, non-threatening work of sandplay, becomes a preferred channel to the unconscious where the painful wounds of trauma are stored, and where new possibilities for healing and development are born. The Sandplay process allows the individual psyche to direct and follow the path that is right for each individual soul.
