ABSTRACT

Remember the Great Depression (1928–1939) depicted in the black-and-white photographs, the long lines of mostly White men at soup kitchens conveying a sense of economic desperation? Many of those persons photographed were current students’ grandparents or great-grandparents. Contrast those grainy images against the recent Great Recession (2007–2014) in which Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube sites offer thousands of job search methods for students who may still be living under their parents’ roof. While it may seem that so much has changed, the stress of uncertain futures for some students is as dramatic as it was 80 years ago.
