ABSTRACT

Elamites and Iranians (Jan Tavernier)

This contribution aims to illustrate the relations between Elamites and Iranians in the Neo-Elamite (c.1000–1550 BC) and Achaemenid (c.550–330 BC) periods. The presence and role of Iranians in Elam in both periods will be discussed, taking into account that the position of Iranian-speaking people was completely different in both periods. In the Neo-Elamite period, Iranians lived as subjects in an Elamite-controlled kingdom, whereas in the Achaemenid period, an Elamo-Iranian culture was dominant.
