ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the fundamental changes in the nature of work and how the built environment is being used in new ways to shape a more positive work experience for people. It aims to provide, as strategists, build language and tools that help visualize a strategic link between workplace design and the changing work patterns that define the reality of today's economic landscape. The chapter introduces the concept of modularization and summarizes fundamental changes to the nature of work. The nature of work implies the organization of work, its institutional patterning, and its relationship to the market economy where it happens. The chapter discusses the implications of these changes on people and their everyday work patterns. It deals with implications for the future and other changes to the language of the workplace.
