Use of large cross section of metropolitan labor market surveys to study occupational wage structures - Comparisons with firm’s wage structure - Principal determinants of metropolitan wage structure are unionization, size of labor market, rural-urban income ratio, and employment in durable goods manufacturing - Advantages of factor analysis as a method include use of artificially created variables: (1) Measurement of deviations from composite average of all areas; (2) Measurement of skilled-unskilled wage differential - Method described - BLS data assessed - Reasons for equal weighting - Behavior of aggregated occupational structure range over time -Unique performance of teamster’s wage levels - Findings and their significance -Stability of ranking and spacing of occupational wage rate throughout the country.
