ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a comprehensive analysis of the different aspects of agriculture and allied sectors from the perspective of different competing paradigms during the past two to three decades. It analyses the issues and problems related to input subsidies to the agricultural sector with a case study of Haryana. The book pertains to Farm Labour, Livelihood Diversification and Non-farm Employment. It argues that the state creates and maintains peripheries by keeping wage low in certain localities within the geographical boundaries of the state.
