ABSTRACT
South Africa is richly endowed with mineral resources. It produces more gold, platinum, manganese, and chromium than any other country in the world, and the overall value of its mineral production is second only to that of the United States in the Western world. (Figure 5-1 shows the distribution of mineral resources in South Africa.)
