ABSTRACT

There are those who believe in supporting the current state system, those who believe in its overthrow, and those who are undecided. That most Political Geographers fall into the first category is hardly surprising. The large majority of the people who live on this earth, including residents of Communist countries, adhere to the principle that the State is the best available mechanism for maximising the cultural and economic potential of individuals and groups. They believe that control of territory by the State mechanism is indispensable to their security, welfare and life-satisfactions.
