ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the far-reaching role of African American women as political participants to develop a greater understanding of these women during this critical economic and demographic shift in America. National survey data are used to explore the varied attitudes and behaviors of African American women. The perspective of African American women is relevant to the discussion of policy preferences, potential coalition development, political engagement and the advancement of African Americans, and liberal politics.
